Negative collection, 1946-1959.

This collection contains 3,594 acetate negatives. The majority of negatives are black and white 4 x 5, but some 2 x 3 as well as color negatives are included. These negatives include views of the buildings and businesses of Montgomery, Ala.; James E. Folsom's 1946 Campaign and inauguration; John Patterson's inaugural ball; forestry and lumber companies; the agricultural activities and developments of the Crimson Clover Association; real estate developments; individuals, including Earl James, Bob Stewart, "Spec" Shaffer, Alex Marks, Hardy Ellis, Champ Pickens, Judge Eugene Carter, Sam Engelhardt, and a number of families; and social activities such as weddings, anniversaries, dances, games, and rodeos. Also included are views of other businesses and buildings of various Ala. counties. This collection provides an overview of the interests and activities of some of Alabama's residents in the mid-twentieth century. These negatives are numbered PN7252-7410, PN7838-7999, PN9113-11482, PN11484-12390, PN14215-14602, PN14668-14747, and PN14749-15015.

Samuel Engelhardt, a farmer and merchant in Macon County (Ala.), was a prominent Alabama politician who served in the State House of Representatives from 1950-1954 and in the State Senate from 1954-1958.
